On Thursday 13th October we took a coach load of our guests to visit the Tramway Museum at Crich. Chris from JB Tours picked us up from Chewton Street in Eastwood and we arrived at Crich at around 11.30am. After settling the bill at the entrance, our coach was given special permission to drive along the tramlines to the tram stop which was a huge help to some of our guests with limited mobility (and it also made Chris, our driver, very happy!)
The owners of the Tramway Museum wanted everyone to be able to enjoy a tram ride so 25 years ago, they purchased a 1969 tram from Berlin which they would be able to make accessible for all, including wheelchair users. Unfortunately, we couldn’t all fit on the same tram so some of our guests travelled on the much older Leeds tram.
After a trip up and down the track, we all alighted and went for lunch at Rita’s Tea Rooms. We all sat together in the Paulson Rooms above the Red Lion Pub which was formerly a working public house in Stoke on Trent and was taken and down and rebuilt brick by brick, at the Museum. We enjoyed a lovely lunch of either soup, jacket potatoes or pie and chips.
After lunch we explored the rest of the site and went in the Exhibition Centre to see the trams of yesteryears and reminisce, amongst other things. Some of us went back to the Red Lion and enjoyed a cheeky gin or tot of whisky!
A fabulous day was enjoyed by all and we would like to say a huge thanks to all the staff who were kind, courteous and patient with all of our guests.
We are looking forward to our next trip already at East Bridgford Garden Centre on Monday 28th November.
