Oh yes we did enjoy our day at the panto!
On Thursday 11th January, more than 40 Memory Cafe guests, volunteers and extended family visited the Playhouse Theatre in Nottingham.
We attended a Dementia Friendly performance of Cinderella, and were blown away by both the show and the overall experience provided by the Playhouse staff.
During a Dementia Friendly performance, there is a much more relaxed attitude to moving around the theatre and making noise. The volume is reduced, the lights are dimmed instead of switched off completely, and there is a quiet room available, as well as additional staff to offer help and support.
The performers were brilliant, from Cinderella and her beautiful voice to the hilarious Ugly Stepsisters who took Nigel’s heckling in their stride.
We have visited the Playhouse several times now and cannot thank them enough for the efforts they go to in order to make everybody feel safe, welcome and happy. We must also thank our wonderful driver Chris from JB Tours for going above and beyond.
All in all, we had a brilliant day and are already looking forward to next year!
